Learning Places

end of the summer

Learning Places
I have had a great summer in learning places. I loved teaching the children and I hope that they took out of it as much as I did. now that I think about it learning places has done so much this summer and last fall. We designed five sites in which we would be able to teach children while having the space interactive and usable by other people so that educaters and children could learn and build off of what we created. we done so much with the kids and spent so much time with them. just the amount of work spent teaching was a great accomplishment but we had to go beyound that because we had to ensure that the kids got the most of their time; so we had to not only learn the investigations, but understand them inside and out while also actually doing the investigation before hand to ensure that the kids would enjoy it. I learned so much this summer not only about how to teach and what I needed to teach but I also learned a lot about myself in the process. the group of learning places has done so great and done so much but I think that our accomplishments so much more when the obstacles we have over come are taken into consideration. at the begining of the year we did have a rough start but through hard work and an amazing effort by both supervisers and my co-workers we were able to over come them to make this my best year ever as a yes teen.

My Summer with Learning Places

Learning Places
My summer with Learning Places was a Blast! My supervisors were Messa, Bill and Tim. They taught me a lot and helped me increase on my intelligence. We have done a lot and been through a lot (as usual). I really enjoyed myself this summer with you all and I will love to show up next year(if able). -Paul Calloway

End Of The Summer

Learning Places
The summer was so fun working in the learning places.I got to meet new people. I'm also glad this is the last week so I won't have to deal with my sister anymore.I liked working with the older kids because they are very helpful and sometimes gives good advice.

Networking

Learning Places
Today at the St. Louis Science Center, I was in a networking workshop. I met a lot of new people. I really liked Virginia Kerr, with Channel 4. I got to talk to her about my meterology skills and she gave me a number to contact Matt Chambers. He is the meterologist for channel 4. Overall, it was a good day. I met a lot of people that I would like to work for. I'm looking for it when I get older.

today we went to girl inc. to teach the girls about optical illusion. after we introduced the topic we handed out a sheet of paper that had differnet colored circles with numbers in them. they had to look at the picture and tells us what numbers were in the circle. but it was kind of hard to see the numbers becasue they were really light. I had two partners and they both could see the numbers very well. then we did an activity where you had to make two circle, cut them out, draw something on one side then the other side, make two holes, put string through them, tie the strings together, twiss it togther and then the 2 picture that you made would come together as one picture. my partners made a heart and an arrow, so when we spin the cricles it will look like the arrow is going through the heart, as one picture. every one enjoyed the activity an was excited about what they were doing.

Today at Girls Inc.

Learning Places
Today at Girls inc. we started out with an activity that shows if you are colorblind or not. My girl saw all the numbers which mean that she passed the test and is not colorblind. I think that activity was not really a good one because to fully understand why colorblind people cannot see those numbers it would be too difficult for them. After that we did an activity where you cut out a circle and color both sides. We were originaly suppose to draw a cloud on one side and a lightning bolt on the other side. But my girl didnt want to do that so i let her draw what she wanted. After you drew it on the circle we tied string on opposite sides of the circle. Then we winded up the circle and let it spin. What was suppose to happen is that the 2 sides will look like they are both on the same picture. It worked sometimes if you spinned it fast enough.

Today at Girls Inc. we did two activities that has to do with optical illusions and I worked with Yasmin. In our photo you could see me trying to see how good her eyesight is by having her look and read some numbers off to me while they are different colors and surrounded by light and dark colors. Afterwards we did an activity kind of similar to the color wheels we did last week but instead pictures were drawn to make it look like one picture and she really enjoyed that activity. So, today was o.k.
