Life in The Science Center

Youth Volunteers

My experience as a youth volunteer in the science center has helped me out a lot in life 1 way its helped me by is getting in my grammar also, it has made me a better person in life also, it has helped my social skills with people and its has made me a better individual in life. i have experienced  how to do things i've never even done before!!. i hope that in the future that the skills ive learned in the past will help and aid me in the future.when i first came to the science centeri though that i would hate this and this was a waste of time but, as i got into the concept i enjoyed my self and had fun i met new people and we all had a good time.

Experiences of the teen volunteering

Youth Volunteers

Today during the community center @ Taylor, We students from different schools came to volunteer for the science center. First all the students that were here was involved in a introducing game. The game decribes your Gener, Age, Religion, Occupation, & name, We had to give up 1 card at a time and explain why did we give up that card, until there was 1 card left, and that last card would explain why would you keep that last card and explaining why did you give up the rest of the 4 cards. Another activity we had 3 groups of 4, and we had to do a Survival examing values worksheet and out of the 12 characters & Profession of the characters, we had to take out 4 of the 12 characters, afterwards we explained each character why didn't we keep the characters to survive with the others.

Today I read a story called Survival: Examing Values.  This story was about people in trouble.  There was a Doctor, Soldier, Muscian,  Pregnant  Woman,  Diabetic Teenage boy, Old woman,  Minister, Dietician,  Teacher,  Scientist, Nurse,  and  a  little boy. There was food and water for eight people.  I decided the Scientist, Soldier, Doctor and the Musician would not get food and water.  As A Group not the doctor, not the old woman, not even the musician, or the pregnant woman.

I had a chance to write about where I felt I am at this time in the program, things like am I on time from break do I wear my t-shirt and how Im relating with the visitors.

I love playing with the children in Discovery Room,  Mrs Susan is really nice and she makes me laugh, the only I dont care for are the big BUGS.....

Youth Volunteers

Hi my name is LaToya and I'm a youth volunteer for the Saint Louis Science Center. this is my second year as a youth volunteer. I'm a junior Vason High School.  My first year with the program I worked with Aramark, helping staff prep for the day, I would make sure the eating area was clean and ready for the visitor.

So this year I wanted to do Aramark again, working Dan and his staff. I enjoy helping visitor while their at the Science Center.  We are doing things a little different this year.

Today we were in Professional Development and one of the things I like today was the SCANS activity. Survival Examing Valus my group and I had to choose to let an old woman leave the safety of the fall out shelter, I wanted the little boy to leave because he was too busy and would get into stuff, and wanted too much attention just being hard headed. The other was a female musician she was confusing she wanted the men all to herself, she would have cause so many problem with the group, the men would not be on task.

So look for me next week to let you know all about my experience with the Science Center.

What I did today while volenteering at the St. louis Science Center

YES-2-Tech
Hello my name is Darrell What I did was first I walked into the science center and then after coming in I was greeted by Lady Gywanna. She told me that I would be working at Table Tops, what was focused on at the Table Tops booth was constructing tower like structures out of marshmellows and tooth picks. Some of the younger the visitors were focusing on eating the marshmellows more than building with them. After we closed up the booth I started as a greeter and did that for the rest of the afternoon. In all I was volenteering for 4 hours.
