Can't Wait until Next week

EHLA

Next week is going to be so fun it is the last week of work for the summer and also we are doing our most fun activity.  This activity is the unisphere. I think this is the most fun activity because we teach it as a whole group instead of in teams of 2 and i don't have to memberize that much info.

Teaching Content

EHLA

This week we are teaching about the Earth and the Moon.  The other activity is space probes tis activity is alot more fun to me because it is a activity where the kids have to use there imagination and different recycled materials to send to a planet.  Its cool because none of the them end up looking alike because of the planet the are going to or just because of the wierd materials.  The activity about the Earth and the moon is really boring because it is a model of the sun and moon and the distance away but it has no real excitement.  THe best part about this activity is the facts about the moon and i didnt kno the moon was 1/50 the size of earth.

Confluence Academy

EHLA
This week has been very fun the kids at confluence are so excited to see us when they can and they all say they love the activities that makes me feel great to teach kids that are interested.  I think we are the second favorite part of the kids learning experience because they seem to like the step class more but thats fine.  We are teaching the kids about the solar system so our first activity was solar system in your pocket to teach them about the distance between the sun and each planet.  Then we made posters for each planet, next we will do portable planetarium and will be the best session yet i think.

city science

City Science

today we had a very interesting conversation. we talked about how the mall, school, and work all play a part of each other. we talked about if one component was to get taken away what would happen. for instant if you take away transportation how would you get to those places. also if there was no security then stuff would get stolen and everything would be chaotic. i have a question to ask...would you rather be safe and have no rights or have all your rights and not be safe.

Making Root Beer

City Science
Today we learned about fermentation. Fermentation is the process of converting a carbohydrate into alcohol and carbon dioxide. Today in lab we made root beer out of sugar, root beer extract, yeast, and water. This kind of fermentation is called yeast fermentation. Next week we'll taste the root beer because it has to go through the fermentation process.

BROWNING APPLES IN THE LAB

City Science
Today in the lab we were tring to figure out why apples brown. we tested the apples in diffrent types of acids. The first acid we used was Ascorbic acid this acid is bascilly a 200-mg vitamin C tablet, the next one was Citric acid this one was a mixture of 5mL of lemon juice and 195 mL of water the last one was Acetic acid that was vinegar but we used 2 types of that one was a 0.1% which is 4 mL of vinegar and 196 ml of water and  the other was 40 mL of vinegar adn 160 mL of water. We soaked each apple in the acids for 30 seconds and after we took them out we recored every 10 minutes about how brown the apple gotten. We werent able to finish but next week we should be finish

Last week at Adams

Saint Louis Public Schools

Teaching at Adams was a great experience for me because it made me see what kids are like at school and how much it reminds me of my childhood.  Now i see how teachers feel with all the grading work and it made me realize I dont want to be a teacher.  I can say that they were willing to learn and that made it fun to teach about ecosystems.  I truly will miss my third and second graders.  The best memory I have was letting them look back at their terrarium and seeing things had grown.
